What OpenRent offers for your records
If you use OpenRent’s Rent Collection, its help centre says you can download a record of all payments received (checked 6 October 2026). That is a record of rent, not a Making Tax Digital update.
What Making Tax Digital needs
Digital records of your income and expenses, and quarterly updates sent to HMRC from software on HMRC’s list. It applies from 6 April 2026 if your qualifying income was over £50,000, and from 6 April 2027 if it was over £30,000.
Doing it with LetCompliance
Record the rent and expenses in LetCompliance, by Direct Debit, bank statement import or receipts read for you, and send each quarterly update from the MTD page. LetCompliance is on HMRC’s list for quarterly updates and the tax return for UK property income, and free for one property.
If you let through OpenRent
You can keep OpenRent for finding tenants and use LetCompliance for the records and the updates.
